Chelsea Crafts

I really recommend liking this page, she is someone I used to go to school with and she makes such beautiful master pieces out of sweets!! They are very good as gifts and she makes them to whatever specification you choose. Please like and check her out!

Here are some examples of her work!

Upleathum Chapel

I tried to get a shot that looked slightly awkward but I feel there are too many angles in this.

I love the texture in this head stone and how it has aged with the weather but you can still see the engraving.

The door was only just taller than me (I'm 5ft2'')

Inside the chapel it was only maybe an 8ft and at one point there would have been access to the bell tower but it is uncertain whether there is anymore because it appears to be blocked off inside.

The stone structures seem to be animal faces, for example the snake one in the top right corner.

When looking at the chapel from this angle you can see how small it is relative to its surroundings. It can't be anymore than 10-12ft. Pretty neat huh? I'd like to thank my dad for showing me this and I hope I can have another opportunity to visit it again.

Insects in the church

While visiting Skelton Church, a load of insects were spotted on a window ledge, I decided to photograph this as it was very interesting and you don't get to see these things everyday and the lighting to me was worked well with the subject.

Whitby

I decided to take photos of in and around Whitby, This arch is up the street from me.

I took this photo because I found the highlights of this interesting and the door knockers detail is one I would like to have on my own door but due to the age and style of my home there are restrictions to what you can do. Never the less it is nice to fine little gems like these even if some people don't notice them.

Goth Weekend Part 2

I have a small collection of gas masks and leathers at home and my partner decided to wear one of them on one of the nights of goth weekend. He was also messing about with of my lenses and put it against his eye, I caught this shot at just the right time and used Photoshop to define the highlights and the detail in the rubber and his eye. I preferred the image in black and white and continued this theme throughout my goth weekend pictures.

We went to west cliff and took some shots on the wall at night I like this shot because of the shadows and the composition, also his head being tilted downwards like that adds a gloomy and sad mood to the image.

This I took while hanging around town, this boy was sat bored outside the milkshake shop just banging away on a stool like it was a drum. If I had got closer I think he would have ran off but he didn't notice me as I was across the road. I got him at a natural moment so at least that counts for something I suppose.

This couple I met on west cliff, I love there outfits so much.

These women were in the stalls in the pavilion.

Voltaire

This was taken by a photo taken by a photographer at the gig, I am the one in red second from the far left (aka the midget in red) Voltaire is center stage and quite obviously enjoying himself.... and most likely more than a little drunk (he brought on a bottle of rum and started trying to hump a darlek)

This is his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/VoltaireFanPage?fref=ts
and I highly recommend liking this https://www.facebook.com/VoltaireSignalCorps?fref=ts
 and subscribing to this http://www.youtube.com/user/VoltaireMusicPage
This explains the signal corps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FkE3V-h1Ck
This is his official website where you will find really awesome stuff  http://www.voltaire.net/

He is an amazing musician as well as a toy maker, author (he has just recently published a book called call of the new jersey devil) and is also a film maker and an Adam Ant lover which I give him huge respect for ( he even did a song about the small insect related bloke which puts Voltaire in an even higher position in my good books) The gig was brilliant and I really hope he is playing next April, so please check the guy out.

Goth Weekend Part 1

I live in Yorkshire as you know and in Yorkshire there is a small town called Whitby which is famous for the tale of Dracula and the voyages of Captain Cook, as the ship Endevour was said to have been birthed in Whitby bay. As the nature of both of these subjects are very historical, the town is too, stone buildings and cottages dating back to as early as the 14 century and some are even older! A landmark of the town is the Abbey which adds a very Gothic feel to the streets and that also attracts a lot of tourists.
Whitby hosts a few festivals every year including folk week and the more renound Whitby Goth Weekend.

I don't own this photo unfortunately as it is a beautiful shot. I feel the abbey is photographed too much and it has become boring as so many people have photos of it, so the shot really isn't unique but the place defiantly is... I haven't had a chance to go up to the abbey for a long time so I will have to do that as soon as I can.
Goth Weekend is one of my favorite festivals and has an array of attractions including markets, themed night club discos, pubs and heritage walks as well as a change to show off all your goth booty!!! There are gigs at a few of the pubs and at the pavilion the main big show takes place. I had the pleasure of attending the friday show, where drinks are reasonably priced, the people and staff there are friendly and some amazing acts preform. These include, Pussycat and the dirty Johnsons, Zombina and the skeletons, doctor and the medics (not so keen on them but they where a good laugh) and the madman himself Voltaire.

Identity

On a concept I thought of when thinking about surrealism I thought about the mindsets of myself and others and ones personal identity. When thinking of identity this also to me covers how people view you so I tried to view the world as having no identity at all and having no individualism. This made me think of the bars the government put over peoples eyes to protect peoples identity and the concept that the government will never see people as individuals, only beings who are put into groups. IE students, children, tax payer and the unemployed etc etc. This is what I came up with.

Surreal with projections

I used one of the images from one of the light shoots (will upload this later) and combined it with a image of a fetus using a projector in college. I printed the images on acetate and made my own slides from them and layering images creates this effect. Unfortunately you can't change how light an image can be or at least the section you want to be light when you layer them as with this combination attempting to make it lighter would mean the fetus would be too translucent.
To overcome the issue of the fetus being too light I combined it with a different image which let more the light even out on both images as it was less dark. I experimented projecting the image onto some net curtain and it produced some weird and interesting effects.

Here is an example of when I moved the net, It almost looks like running water.
I wrapped the net around myself and projected onto myself. I positioned it so the fetus' head was on my stomach like a scan.

Projection with shadow.

Animals

Before I started on the surrealism project I went out on a night shoot using a digital SLR on a slow shutter speed so that my images would be distorted. There is a cat called George who is a resident at the shop near me called Gutsy Gingers (I will tell you more about this in a future post) and he was hanging around when I was shooting. I tried to take a few shots of him but he kept on moving closer towards me as I took them. This photo I think is very interesting as you have to look closely to see what it is as he almost blends into the road because of the lighting and the fact he is ginger.

On the day I moved to my new flat (well cottage) Nana had to be put in her travel case so we could take her with us. I set her on the wall outside and she gave me such an amazingly sad look I had to capture it. It seems she is saying I don't know where I'm going and I'm scared but I'm gonna trust you... and most likely wanting to be out.
