Album cover - Tool

Album covers

Here is the first album cover I did, I did a shoot involving a oxs heart and a pigs head cut in head which I got from the butchers. I brought it into college (it caused a bit of a stir to say the least...) and photographed it in the studio, experimenting with lighting and the positions of the organs. Unfortuantly the pigs head shots didnt come out well but here is an example for you.

Needless to say I gained a reputation, The pigs head was given
the pet name of Graham, may he rest in peace in the rubbish.

I photographed the pigs jaw as it was cut in half so this is the veiw from the inside. I like the way the light reflects off the tissue and the compostion of the shot, as it is shot rather close in and is a little abstract. I also added a spiral and numbers which represents fibbonachi, which is a pattern of numbers which continues on and on. It is called Fibbonachi because of the man who dicovered it and it is directly related to calutating the theory of the golden mean (you'll have to look this up yourself as it is a little complicated to explain) This is also related to the band I focused on, Tool.

This is also another reason I have a reputation. I decided for the benefit of my project to do a shoot with my pet hamster Nana (named after the anime character from Elfen Lied) and as I don't have a studio space where I live (my home is tiny) I brought her into college. This caused a stir as appartently you aren't allowed to bring ''wild'' animals into college, but oh well, we know not to anymore, eh?
Anyway, I photographed her in the studio in her ball and out of her ball, making sure she didn't escape. I then used a box to make a darker and safer environment for her so I could take different shots of her and see the tones of her. She moved quite a lot and this created some interesting effects and I particularly like this 1 because she is very abstract and her face almost looks like a skull.

Here is the image with added text

Here is another image of her of her in the middle of scatching her nose, I added text and the fibbonachi over the top so you can't properly see what she is. I like where she is postioned and how her face isn't in focus.

Tool are a big inspiration to me because of the consepts in their music and the alternative metal/indie style. This song insprired me because it talks about shedding skin and having a darkside which speaks a lot to me. This reminds me of snakes and shedding of parts of yourself so I experimented with projecting light on to photo paper in the darkroom, placing snake skin (kindly donated to me by my friend) on to it so the texture would be printed onto the paper. Here are some examples.

First attempt I love the tones and the textures.

Combination of two different skins from two different snakes.

Combination of skin and scrawled lyrics writen on acetate.

This is the orriginal image from a shoot  I did inspired by the band Tool, I will evaulate more on this in later posts and tell you more about the band which have inspired me so much over the years, S

Hello :)

Hello, I have decided to take a more realistic outlook and create a blog so that people can veiw my work. I do have a deviant art ( http://killerofthesouls.deviantart.com/ ) but I feel this is not professional enough and I'm going to use this blog as a portfolio, rather than just a personal blog. I am at college doing a course in photography and have been interested in the art world for the majoyity of my life. I particularly like working in black and white as this appeals to me quite a lot because of the tones and feeling the lack of colour creates. If you have any artists, music, literature or anything you think I might be interested in or will give me some inspriation, please messege me on here via email or post on my facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/pages/Killerofthesouls/425264517560260 )

Here is a resent example, enjoy, S
